Free Play
You see one picture. Play that picture for the bars you set. No chord chart. The click is the room, and the picture is the only instruction.
Each picture comes up once, then the order changes.
A picture can be any symbol you type, including emoji. In Edit, put · between the picture and a short caption. The picture sits on the top line. The caption sits under it.
Kenny Werner, Effortless Mastery
Type one picture of attention per line: space, softness, or a single note. Set Bars so the click has a length. Play that picture. The chapter stays in the book.
Hal Crook, Beyond Time and Changes
Type one free cue per line: weather, a burst, a long tone, or silence. The metronome still counts the bars you set. Next brings the next cue. The chapter stays in the book.
Stephen Nachmanovitch, Free Play: Improvisation in Life and Art
Type one picture of play per line: a joke, a goodbye, a story, or an accident you keep. You do not plan the notes first. The picture is the only instruction. The chapter stays in the book.
